“My name is Clifton Brantley and I am a therapist in Houston. The workshop has been amazing for me, particularly listening to Dr. Sue Johnson. Last night I had a client after the externship and I was able to actually practice and I had a breakthrough with the client that I had been stuck with. His emotions had been shut off and he had not been able to access them. Even though we would talk about his pain, his emotions never came out.
So what happened was, I was doing EFT and got to a point where we were talking about outside relationship and Sue says to always keep it current. When I got to the point to when I wanted to make the emotions current in the room with the current relationship, I got stuck. I was afraid and they told us in the externship that would happen. So I am sitting there, battling myself, that I really didn’t want to do it, I was afraid. But, I went ahead and took the risk and did it. After that, I pulled out. I didn’t stay there. Then towards the session, again this guy doesn’t show emotions.
Finally, I did enactment. It’s my first time. I told his wife to turn to him and tell him that’s he is enough because we have been battling with him, not feeling like he is enough. Turn to him and tell him that he is enough. Tell him that he is enough as your husband, tell him that he is enough as a friend and tell him he is enough as a son and you are sorry that his dad didn’t validate that for him. As we were sitting, she turned to him and she said it and he started laughing, I know that is his defense mechanism as his eyes got red and he was fighting back the emotions. He said that he was not going to cry. It was amazing.
I am so glad that I came to this because I was exposed to EFT a while back but had not been using it and this really gave me the confidence to step out and kind of operate in it and it works. It was amazing. So thank you to HCEFT for this Externship training and I am so grateful.”
